The Eagles announced on Monday that they have agreed to trade wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots, pending a physical.
In exchange, the Eagles receive New England's first-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2027.
The Eagles are the first team to acquire multiple first-round picks for the 2028 NFL Draft. Before adding potential compensatory selections, the Eagles will have 15 draft picks over the next two years that Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman can use to build for the future or as ammunition to fortify the roster now.
Acquired on draft night in 2022 from the Tennessee Titans, Brown's dominating, bully-ball, physical brand of receiver complemented DeVonta Smith's smooth, silky route-running and incredible playmaking skills to form one of the league's most dynamic one-two punches at the wide receiver position in the league over the past four seasons.
During Brown's time in Philadelphia, the Eagles earned four playoff appearances, won three NFC East titles, captured a pair of NFC Championships, and hoisted the Lombardi Trophy after dominating the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
A three-time All-Pro and captain with the Eagles, Brown hauled in 339 receptions (13th in franchise history) for 5,034 yards (9th in Eagles history) and 32 touchdowns in the regular season. He tacked on another 28 catches for 334 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs, including one in each Super Bowl.
Brown and Smith became the first wide receiver duo in Eagles history to each surpass 1,000 yards in a season in 2022, following that up again two more times, including last season. Individually, Brown owns the top two single-season receiving yardage marks in team history (1,496 in 2022 and 1,456 in 2023), and his 106 receptions in 2023 are the most by an Eagles wide receiver (second overall to tight end Zach Ertz's 116 in 2018).
Roseman said this offseason that one of the team's priorities was to increase the depth in the wide receiver room and the Eagles accomplished that starting in free agency with the acquisitions of Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore, trading for Dontayvion Wicks, and moving up in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft to select Makai Lemon.
In his introductory press conference, new Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion shared his excitement for the wide receiver room.
"Our offense is not about any one piece. It's how we all fit together. The wide receiver group specifically has been a lot of fun. I think we have a lot of guys with complementary skill sets. They're tough. They compete every day at practice. They really attack the fundamentals, catching the football, yards after catch, all those things. So really excited about that group and how they fit with one another and then how they fit with the larger picture of the offense," Mannion said.
And armed with extra draft capital, including the first-round pick in 2028, Roseman, who made the aggressive move four years ago to get Brown, has additional resources to bolster the team as he sees fit.
